It came to me as a surprise that there's no shortcode for what other themes call an "accordion toggle" and I was wondering how could I add this functionality.
Essentially, the only difference from the current toggle function would be that when a user expands one section, the other would collapse automatically so that there's only one open tab at any given time.
Can anyone please post an example on how to implement this or how to modify the existing toggle function?

If you really need this then you can use a plugin. You can use this one: http://www.greenermountain.com/2010/05/s-simple-accordion-wordpress-plugin/, I've tested and it works fine. You can make some css adjustments to get the desired look for it.
Read the read me file and you would find how to use it. Is not hard at all.
